About Time

This Web theme is based on the 2004 Penn State Lectures on the Frontiers of Science, sponsored by the pharmaceutical company Pfizer, Inc., and Penn State's Eberly College of Science, and organized by Barbara K. Kennedy, coordinator of college relations. The Frontier series of Saturday morning lectures was started in 1995 by a group of Eberly College faculty in the Center for Gravitational Physics and Geometry. It was designed for the enjoyment and education of average citizens rather than for a specialized audience composed exclusively of scientists.

"It's About TIME," the tenth installment in the series, was held from January 31 through February 28, 2004. The lectures took place on five consecutive Saturday mornings on the Penn State University Park Campus. For more information about the series, visit:

The Speakers: Gene Block is vice president and provost and Thomas Jefferson professor of biology at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA. Abhay Ashtekar is director of the Center for Gravitational Physics and Geometry, Eberly Family Chair, and professor of physics at Penn State. Kurt Gibble is associate professor of physics at Penn State. Robert Mitchell is professor of biology at Penn State. Joel Lebowitz is director of the Center for Mathematical Sciences Research and professor of mathematics at Rutgers University, Camden, NJ.
