Unlike gasoline stations, the hydrogen dispenser actually communicates with the vehicles. An electric connector transmits measurements of tank pressure, temperature, and capacity from the car to the station. Control signals allow the station and vehicle to "hand shake" to confirm the start and end of fueling operations. If the proper signals are received, the station fills the car's tank with hydrogen.
