An important part of excavating an archaeological site like the Viking Age house at Glaumbaer is keeping good records. Here, Northwestern University graduate student Doug Bolender sets up a sign to take digital photos of the peat ash pit. The area was also mapped and drawn. Surrounding Bolender are (left to right), Sigridur Sigurdardottir, the curator of the Glaumbaer Folk Museum; the author; UCSD graduate student Tara Carter; and John Schoenfelder of UCLA's Cotsen Institute of Archaeology.
