Odyssey Through Literature explores the literatures of differing cultures, the dramas of individuals and societies. It is a developing definition of "comparative literature": each of the 260 half-hour episodes enlarges the definition.

As series host S. Leonard Rubinstein explains, "We do not assume that every listener has a prior interest in each subject. We assume that our curiosity will make our listeners curious, and that everyone will profit."

Odyssey Through Literature was produced for radio by the Comparative Literature Department of Penn State University from 1981 to 1998. This archive is a service of the Institute for the Arts and Humanistic Studies at Penn State and of Research Publications in the Office of the Vice President for Research.
