"Prayers in Dust"
A storefront window covered in dust was one of the few not blown in by explosions. "The power was still out in this part of the city, so it was complete darkness inside," recalls Mashel. "The blackness emphasized the messages, names, and prayers people wrote in the dust." Letters and signs taped to the glass turned the window into one of many memorials at Ground Zero.
